Lanika announces MatCalc 6.03 by MatCalc Engineering

Bangalore, INDIA, [March 17, 2020] : New release of MatCalc (version 6.03) is now online and can be downloaded Here. Different new features were introduced in the new version, including the ones increasing the user-friendliness.

The highlights are summarized below.

Complex thermomechanical processing can be simulated in MatCalc using the convenient editor. In the new version, microstructure parameters can be reset to initial values at the thermomechanical treatment segment start. This allows to overcome the limitations of single class model for grain growth during the simulations with multiple recrystallization cycles.
Precipitates are represented in MatCalc with size classes to give a better picture of the precipitate size distribution. In the new version, you have the choice to deactivate automatic class merging or splitting of the precipitate classes performed by MatCalc. Once deactivated, the behavior of individual classes can be studied leading to a better understanding of the precipitate kinetics during the simulation progress.
MatCalc estimates material yield strength depending on the strain rate applied on it. In this version, considering the definition of “global deformation rate” for the simulation of thermomechanical treatment allows for the evaluation of the material dynamic yield strength at any simulation time instance. With this modification, it is not necessary to introduce any additional segments with deformation which were to be dedicated for this evaluation.
MatCalc allows to follow the values of numerous system parameters in the “Variables” window. In the new version, the content of the variable groups in the “Variables” window is instantly updated in relevance to the performed system changes (e.g. introduction of the new precipitation domain). There is no need to collapse&expand the group in order to get the updated output. Moreover, the searching engine in “Variables” window was optimized and relocated to the bottom of this window to find the required information faster than before.
MatCalc model describe the yield strength evolution depending on the material temperature. In the new version, new variables related to this topic are introduced (“prec domain strength” section), describing:
Strain hardening rate for high temperature limit – DGC_THETA_0_HT$#Domain
Strain hardening rate for low temperature limit – DGC_THETA_0_LT$#Domain
Saturation stress for high temperature limit – DGC_SIGMA_SAT_HT$#Domain
Saturation stress for low temperature limit – DGC_SIGMA_SAT_LT$#Domain
The plots in MatCalc are conveniently managed with “Options” window settings. In the new version, the plot -related contents of „Options“ window are reworked and now is more user friendly. Numerous “yes/no” settings are replaced with check box. The values of for various parameters are typed in the “options” window rather than in a new one.
An icon is introduced into the toolbar which creates a new “p1”- type GUI window (XY-data plot), once clicked on it. This feature is introduced due to the frequent occasions when such a window is created.
Once an equilibrium calculation fails to converge, the MatCalc window will blink and shake for a moment to get the user attention to the problem. This will prevent the situations when this problem remained unnoticed by the user.
MatCalc plots can be exported in many formats, including bitmaps, “.png”, “.svg” and “.pdf”. From this version, the “.vsz” format is also supported which is the format recognized by the open-source scientific plotting package Veusz (available for all platforms). With this modification, the capabilities of MatCalc plot postprocessing are extended.
